The 6x30 Dienstglas, also known as the service glass, was one of Germany's most issued binoculars, seeing decades of use with both the Wehrmacht (Army) and the Reichsmarine/Kriegsmarine (Navy). The 6x30 served from 1919 until several years after WW2. Despite this, they are relatively rare as they were only issued to specialized troops and officers.
This pair has wear consistent with age, and still works well, with mostly clear optics. All straps are itact, though one has come loose from the lens cover. It is marked:
Dienstglas 6 x 30 176905 ddx
The three letter code, indicates that these were made after 1940 by Voighlander & Sons of Brunswick. Based on the serial number this pair was probably made in 1940 or 1941.
The case is a bit of a mystery. It appears to be a 1930s commercial binocular case. The case is stamped on top with what appear to be pre-war Austrian military markings. The case is in good shape, but the shoulder strap is worn and broken, and the thin layer of leather over the spring clasp is mostly missing, as is common on this style of case.
This is a great set for any collector.
