It is believed that the pea coat can be traced back to the 1700s, but it really gained traction starting in the 1850s. The peacoat became a favorite of navies throughout the world. It is unlclear why the Air Force thought they needed a Navy-style coat in the '60s, or why they abandoned such a well-made and stylish coat arond the late '70s, but this is an excellent example. The coat is navy blue with Air Force buttons.
