This is an excellent, versatile, and rugged vest . Perfect for reenactment of any period from the 1850s on, Cowboy Action Shooting and more.
The military-style collar is great for certain Confederate units as well. In fact, facing a shortage of wool, the Confederacy begged Britain, and received tan wool which was used to make numbers uniforms for units in Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama, and a few for Georgia. That wool only went so far, however, and canvas duck, dyed tan, was substituted, especially in pants and vests. Homespun militia uniforms in Canvas were even more common.
Several of our local reenactors wear this exact vest. As a bonus, it is far more comfortable in an Alabama summer than the alternative.
