These .69 "Nessler Ball" conicals are a bullet design born during the Civil War and designed by Confederate engineers to achieve rifle-level accuracy out of smoothbore muskets.
These faithful reproductions are hand-cast from pure lead.
Roughly a decade before the American Civil War, the Belgian government experimented with bullet designs to increase accuracy and range in smoothbore .69 caliber muskets. The original Nessler design was officially adopted by Belgium and saw considerable service in the Crimean War.
Years later, the Confederate government of North Carolina found themselves in posession of large numbers of older smoothbore .69 muskets which were to face off against the Union Army's .577 rifles. They quickly realized that round ball would not be sufficient to meet their needs. As a result the Ordnance Department researched alternatives and chose to officially adopt a variation of the design.
The Confederate variant merged the original Nessler design, with a Wilkinson-style base. These bullets proved extremely accurate and reliable for North Carolina's militaries and militias.
Our North Carolina Nessler Ball conical bullets are hand-cast from pure lead and are a great choice not only for use with .69 Civil War-era rifles and muskets. They are a perfect choice to feed rifles such as the the 1842 Springfield, Charleville Muskets, Model 1777 Muskets, Model 1816 Muskets, other Revolutionary War-era weapons, and more. These 540 grain bullets are sold in quantities of 20
All Arlington Cast Projectiles are hand cast in small batches of high quality soft lead. Every ACP product is made here in the USA in beautiful Alabama under tight temperature controls to ensure the projectiles are shiny and uniform. As these are hand cast from pure lead there will be occlusions and imperfections consistent with historic bullets.
