The Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS) was founded in 1951 to protect the West German border, while they were basically border police, the job was so dangerous, and skirmishes were so frequent, that the German government considered them active duty military combatants.

This version of the Splinter Camo pattern was adopted in 1971, and served until German unification in 1990. These uniforms are extremely rare in the U.S. as most were surplussed in Europe, with few shipments sent to the U.S. and Canada. The last known US shipment was in 1993.

This uniform is in very good condition. A couple of small snags were neatly repaired on the shoulders, and are virtually unnoticeable. The BGS patch was slashed by the German government as part of the demilitarization process before surplus sale. This is actually a plus for this item as the Germans were known to often remove the entire flap the patch was sewn to.
