The 1st Cherokee Mounted Riflemen engaged in more than 27 battles for the Confederacy. They were led by Stand Watie, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, and one of only two Native Americans in history to achieve the rank of Brigadier General - and the only one to achieve that rank through combat rather than political connections. Watie was the last general in the field to surrender, and his men were among the last to lay down arms.
In memory of Stand Watie and the Cherokee braves who fought beside him, Old South Firearms is proud to offer this commemorative caset, honoring the 150th anniversary of the June 1865 surrender of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Riflemen.
The case features a facsimile of the battle flag of the 1st CMR, as well as the star of the Cherokee Nation encircled with the unit name and dates of service.
Case Specifications * Black Walnut with a satin lacquer finish * Red felt padded interior * Outside Dimentions: 20"x 8"x 2-3/8" deep. Inside Dimensions: 19"x 7"x 2" deep.
The display graphic is provided for reference to the layout, color, and general design only.
