The BDU variant, the DCU (Desert CamoUniform) served from 1991 to 2008 with the Army, until 2005 with the Marine Corps, 2011 with the Air Force, and 2012 with the Navy.
This uniform was used by the U.S. Navy Maritime Expeditionary Security Force. MESF conducts anti-terrorism missions, protects harbors, beaches, anchorages and maritime infrastructure, conducts surveillance and intelligence missions, and other special missions. They are trained in small boat operations, emergency medical care, close quarters and small arms combat, and crew-served weapons.
