Bown & Tetley (sometimes Bowne and Tetley) was began in 1848 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bown & Tetley were a well-known and well-respected gun and cutlery maker. Most famously, they made bayonets for the German-American "Turner units" that were among the first to volunteer for service in the Union army.

Bowne and Tetly were on the edge between the small-scale craftsmen, and the emergence of factory production, combining craftsmanship with a larger scale of production and interchangeable parts.

The overall condition is good. There are several nicks on the stock, as well as a cutout, likely to stop a crack from spreading (pictured). The bore is great, with deep 7-groove rifling. The stock features a beautiful tiger-stripe was lightly engraved at the factory.
