ALL ANTIQUE RIFLES SOLD AS-IS. NEVER ATTEMPT TO FIRE AN ANTIQUE WEAPON WITHOUT CONSULTING A GUNSMITH. SEE PICTURES FOR CONDITION AND DETAILS. These are sold as collectible antiques.
This is an absolutely beautiful 1893 Amberg-made Gewehr 1888 Commission Rifle with one of the prettiest (tiger striped) stocks we've ever seen on one of these. The bore is sharp, but a little frosty, and every part, barring the WWI-added magazine cover, appears to be in fantastic condition.
That said, the barrel and receiver match each other, and all parts of the bolt match each other, even though the bolt and the receiver/barrel do not match each other. The bolt and sights are Turkish, as likely are the barrel bands, but there are no other Turkish markings.
The bolt is buttery smooth.
It is marked "S" for the more modern Spitzer 8mm Mauser round.
