In 1872 the British firm, Webley & Son of Birmingham, in England, released the wildly popular "Bulldog" revolver. The Bulldog was essentially a rebrand of their Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) model of 1868. It was a double action, easily-concealable firearm available in the formidale calibers of .442 Webley (.44 Webley), .450 Adams, and .44 Bulldog - essentially a lower-powered American version of .44 Webley.
It was so popular that makers around the world made clones, usually in smaller calibers. One of the finest American makers was Forehand & Wadsworth, sons-in-law of Ethan Allen, the famed firearms manufacturer and inventor. F&W produced their version from 1878-1890 and offered it in .32 Smith and Wesson, .38 S&W and .44 Webley/.44 Bulldog.
This example is a six-shot in .44 Webley. Based on grips and markings we believe this to be a fairly early example of the "BRITISH BULL-DOG", likely produced in the 1870s or early 1880s. Early guns lacked the markings of later models. Aside from the serial number stamps, the only external marks are F&W's bulldog trademark stamp, and “BRITISH BULL-DOG” stamped across the top strap.
Condition is very good with most of the original nickle finish remaining, there are dings scratches and wear, mostly on the right side of the revolver. The action is tight and the trigger is crisp.
Overall condition as seen in photos.

The legendary P1871 Martini Henry Short Lever Rifle was great, until it wasn't. The combination of the quality of casings in the mid-late 19th century, black powder residue, and the 1871's short lever often led to jams in the middle of combat. See More
